I will send you the Comforter—the Spirit of truth who will teach you.
When the Spirit of truth comes, we will know the truth, and we will be freed to share it naturally with others. We will not need to dress it up or try to make it sweeter to swallow. Knowing the truth will comfort us and confront us and make us prefer more truth.
The truth is, Jesus is moving on.* And the truth is, we still do not understand what this means, that he will be leaving yet still will be among us. “None of you has even asked me where I am going,” Jesus says. “Instead, you are sad.”
The truth is, we miss the truth when we fail to ask questions and seek more understanding, when we let our feelings—our sorrows, our joys–be our guide instead of Jesus. “There is so much more I want to tell you,” Jesus says, “but you cannot hear it right now. When the Spirit of truth comes, you will be guided into all truth.”
Our capacity for truth grows as our capacity to live in the truth grows. Everything we will need to be able to live in the truth is being given, in slow-release, absorbable doses. The comfort is that our capacity for truth stretches over time. More truth comes as we absorb more of the truth.
