Recovery Café DC, in partnership with civic minded developers and lenders, has acquired the former dollar store retail location at 1337 Good Hope Road, SE and will be converting it to a new space for the café, as well as mixed-income housing, 36-48 units with 1/3 affordable. This news was covered by the Washington Business Journal. Selections from the article are below, and you can read the article linked.
“We really wanted to put Recovery Café [DC] in the ownership stream and give them a perpetual operating income,” said Stan Jackson, president and CEO of Anacostia Economic Development Corp. “And we think this can demonstrate to nonprofits and communities with a shared vision what they can come together and achieve.”
“We’ll have more classes, more programs, room for community partners to come in and offer resources,” said Jacqueline Conerly, the nonprofit’s co-founder and CEO. “We’ll just really be able to expand our capacity and help more people.”
Washington Business Journal article – “In Anacostia, a nonprofit will own a new affordable development. Backers see it as a model for others.“
