D.C. is a changing city, and Jubilee Housing is keeping up with those changes in bold but considerate ways. They are committed to addressing the need for affordable housing and resident programs in this city, and are creative and resourceful in those efforts. Recently Washington Business Journal reported on Jubilee’s plan for a 60-unit building on the 2300 block of Ontario Road, NW. As stated in the article, written by Katie Arcieri, “Two-thirds of the units will be for households earning 30 percent or less than the area median income, while the rest will be reserved for households earning 60 percent or less of the AMI. Half of the units will be aimed at men and women returning from incarceration.”
In a February blog post, Jubilee Housing Executive Director and President Jim Knight–a member of Bread of Life Church–reflects on 2018, what changes they made and what they have planned for the future.
“Our work is not only about developing affordable housing in thriving neighborhoods with services and programs that support our residents, it is also about reminding people that each person, regardless of age, race, or ability deserves a safe place to call home. The most underestimated gap is the one between people who feel disconnected one from another. When we are disconnected, we make decisions that are in our self-interest but not necessarily in the interest of the greater good. This widens the divide between people from different socioeconomic backgrounds. That is the fundamental pillar of injustice. Through all this we hope to build greater inclusion and equity in our city.”
