Callings – Winter 2020

The issue of Callings for this Winter is chock full of updates from around the community, starting off with a review of longtime CoS associate Wes Granberg-Michaelson’s new book Without Oars. Callings Editor Marjory Bankson then includes a note from Kayla about “Keeping Watch”, as well as Marjory’s own regular “Editor’s Corner” piece. We celebrate 35 years of Christ House! Hallelujah! Mike Little and Jim Dickerson go on to discuss Manna Inc.’s Bread of Life Fund which assists low-income homebuyers with settlement costs, and Jubilee Jobs provides an update on how they are continuing to assist jobseekers during COVID-19. At Dayspring, the retreat center is now available for individual retreats by reservation, and with the help of some grants, Jean Brown is now fully devoting herself to the potter’s wheel in her Earthen Hands ministry. Seekers Church continues its BLM vigil at 12:30pm every Sunday.

“We are not called primarily to create new structures for the church in this age; we are not called primarily to a program of service, or to dream dreams or have visions. We are called first of all to belong to Jesus Christ as Saviour, and to keep our lives warmed at the hearth of his life. It is there that the fire will be lit which will create new structures and programs of service that will draw others into the circle to dream dreams and have visions.”
