The spiritual descent into Divine Love – the recovery journey – may be prompted by suffering, spiritual practices/intentions and love, but we cannot steer or control our descent. Our intentions are like gates we desire to pass through. Once we’ve passed through however, we look back and see that there were no gates. This descent, or free fall … is not a linear journey.

It requires a descent into our deepest, truest self, into the Wellspring of Divine Love in us. That descent involves a thousand deaths to the ego, a constant pattern of letting go and surrendering at deeper and deeper levels. The descent often involves suffering which we do not choose – it chooses us – and some consistent practice of returning to our center, like contemplative prayer and meditation.
