I raise my head enough to acknowledge the mystery and look into Jesus’ eyes, penetrating with compassion. My mind sees the arc of his life in the stories we hear each liturgical cycle. Humble beginnings. Daily life raised in humble circumstances. Formed in the words of the ancient faith: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. Deeply listening, Jesus takes on what is his to do to show us divine love enfleshed.
Every day, through the confusion and chaos of life, we are called to stand as bearers of God’s love. Stand in the breach where the Suffering Christ stands. Stand in hope with the Resurrected Christ. Stand alongside the vulnerable and those needing help to stand and be able to raise their heads with dignity. Stand with those who came before us to better our common life and with the children now for a better future. Stand recognizing the holy ground of our precious beautiful earth to hold our feet steady.
Every day, I pray for humility, faithfulness, steadfast love, mercy, and gratitude.

I recently came across this grounding song Centering Prayer (feat. Andrew Peterson & Leslie Jordan) and other songs that inspire on the album, Sanctuary Songs, from The Porter’s Gate.
